Video Extras

There's Death All Around Us

The following extra, entitled There’s Death All Around Us, features Doug C. Smith, an end-of-life care author, trainer and consultant from Madison, Wisconsin.  While this clip didn't make the final cut of Consider the Conversation, Doug’s insights are valuable because they teach us that life is full of little losses that, if we could only learn to pay attention, help prepare us for what lies ahead.

A Vivid Lesson

The following extra, entitled A Vivid Lesson, features Gregory Gehred, MD, a retired Family Practitioner and Roman Catholic Deacon from South Bend, Indiana.  In the video clip, he recalls several instances from his long career when he was specifically instructed by medical professionals and families alike not to tell patients they were terminal. While this story didn't make the final version of Consider the Conversation, it's important because Dr. Gehred eloquently points out that avoiding open and honest communication at end-of-life is counterproductive.
